Rare Reformation Relics

ArtRefo’s virtual exhibition presents ‘Rare Reformation Relics’ – images and objects from the collections of museums across Europe that testify to the richness and variety of the visual and material culture of the Reformation era. Portraits and visual satires from both Lutheran and Reformed contexts are juxtaposed with objects as diverse as enamel plates, liturgical textiles and communion vessels.

We hope that this selection will encourage viewers to contemplate the emergence and persistence of a rich tradition of images and objects inspired by the theology and piety of the protestant Reformation and the following periods. We also hope that the exhibition will be used for educational purposes and that viewers are encouraged to visit the museums from which the objects have been drawn.
